Students’ Thoughts

Students have stuff to say about school safety. One problem is that adults rarely ask them what they think or how they feel or if they have ideas about how to make it better.  We should ask and more importantly, we should listen.
Students said….
They are nervous about school shootings, bullying, drugs and vaping at school.
Drills are scary and don’t help.
They like that schools are “doing something” to make it safer.
They don’t really think about it.
They weren’t sure who they trusted to tell if they were worried about another student.
They don’t know if they would say anything if a student made a threat.
It is critical that students trust at least 1 adult enough to tell them if a student is struggling or making threats.
