About Kelly

I am Kelly (Carbello). I am “Mom” to 2 remarkable children, a lifelong resident of Arizona, a graduate of Arizona State University (Go Devils) with BA in Psychology and Master of Social Work. When I was in graduate school, an instructor and a guest speaker inspired me to pursue a career in advocacy and public policy. I have an affinity for research, public policy and speaking up for things that are important.

An advocacy project to bring Youth Mental Health First Aid training to my school district and a wrong number led to my introduction to emergency management and school safety.  I quickly saw the similarities in emergency operations planning and social work theory and practice. As a social worker, emergency planning was a natural fit. As a parent, I could not be happier knowing how public schools prepared for emergencies.

Since my introduction to emergency management, I have  completed over 200 hours of FEMA training and coursework, obtained basic and school behavioral health threat assessment and management certificates and studied and practiced school emergency planning for students with disabilities.

I am committed to getting this information to the entire school community and to advocating for inclusive and parallel planning in schools.
