About Kelly
I am Kelly (Carbello). I am “Mom” to 2 remarkable children, a lifelong resident of Arizona, a graduate of Arizona State University (Go Devils) with BA in Psychology and Master of Social Work. When I was in graduate school, an instructor and a guest speaker inspired me to pursue a career in advocacy and public policy. I have an affinity for research, public policy and speaking up for things that are important.
An advocacy project for youth mental health first aid in my school district and a wrong number led to my introduction to emergency management. In 2018, I traveled with school district administrators to the National Fire Academy for a 3 day FEMA training in school emergency operations planning. I saw the similarities between social work theory and practice and the FEMA emergency planning framework and approaches. As a parent, I could not be happier knowing how public schools prepared for emergencies.
Since then, I have completed over 200 hours of FEMA training and coursework, obtained basic and school behavioral health threat management certificates. I am committed to getting this information to the entire school community and to advocating for inclusive planning in schools.
